Are you thinking of installing a single ply membrane on your roof? Before making the final decision, you should take a look on this blog and get to know more about TPO Roofing. TPO stands for Thermoplastic Polyolefin. It is a single ply roofing membrane which is used to cover the surface of the roof. It is a type of rubber membrane which is made up of polypropylene and ethylene propylene rubber. TPO is an energy saving roofing membrane and it is as strong as EPDM ( Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer rubber) membrane or PVC ( Polyvinyl Chloride) membrane but it is more cost efficient than both of them. That means TPO is highly heat and UV rays resistant like EPDM but it also has heat welding ability like PVC does.
PROS
The first and topmost advantage of TPO Roofing is that it is very cost effective roofing. When it gets compared with PVC roofing, it is far less expensive than PVC. Because of its ability of resisting UV rays, direct sunlight, it makes your property cooler and environment friendly. This helps in reducing the usage of Air Conditioning.
CONS
As mentioned above, TPO has the ability of heat welding just like PVC Roofing does. That means, TPO Roofing doesn’t work well when it comes to very high heat. Yes, it does make your property cooler by resisting heat and UV rays but when the temperature increases really high like in hot countries then TPO Roofing can cause you serious problems. TPO Roofing can only be used in cooler places but if you are living in warmer places than TPO Roofing is not your thing. Although, TPO Roofing is durable and strong but you should keep in mind that it still is a new technology. It will take some time for the technique to become reliable. There are some cases noted in the past where TPO Roofing has seen some cracks within a few years of installation. Contact Us Email: jamesnaples@hotmail.com
